Robot 250 is a part of Pittsburgh’s 250th anniversary celebrations. This weekend was the Block Party, a showcase of robots at the Carnegie Science Center. Keepon was on display yesterday and today — including our new dance game.
At this year’s AAAI conference in Chicago, the Mobile Robot Competition includes a Robotics and Creativity workshop. Keepon was invited! On Monday we gave talks (including a number of other musical and dancing robots, such as Haile, Absolut Quartet, and Robonova), and demonstrations are Tuesday and Wednesday.
Keepon was exhibited at a “patent attorney day” festival today at the Tokyo Science Museum. We had six of the robots on display, doing face tracking, dancing, game controller teleop, and a new dance game we’ve developed using a pressure-sensing board (more on that later).
Keepon has been enshrined in the Tokyo exhibition room of Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), where Hideki Kozima designed Keepon.
The automated exhibit has an interactive mode (finding and tracking faces) and a dance mode. The exhibition room, which includes other fun NICT technologies, is open to the public. Get directions and hours for the location here (or in Japanese).
Keepon was a guest performer at last night’s 12th Annual Webby Film & Video Awards in New York City. Keepon assisted host Judah Friedlander in honoring several of the evening’s award recipients.
Later, at the after party, he accompanied DJ James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and hung out with such internet luminaries as Tay “Chocolate Rain” Zonday.
Two Keepons were on display in the HRI Challenge at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation in Pasadena.

Keepon was on display tonight at this year’s Carnegie Science Awards, where the Robotics Institute won the Chairman’s Award. Attendees played with Keepon while shopping a silent auction in the Carnegie Museum of Art’s beautiful Hall of Architecture.

Keepon was exhibited at Innovation Lab’s Nordic Exceptional Trendshop (NEXT No. 5) in Aarhus, Denmark from April 4-6.
